Most of the suburb of Belmont island was assigned to Captain Francis Henry Byrne in 1931. It is believed that Byrne named his land 'Belmont' after his estate in England. The land was not developed, until 1882 when Shepherd Smith of Sydney purchased it and it was Smith in 1897 and 1898 who instigated the major subdivision of the area. For many years the lots were quite large due to the development of the area for training racehorses and because of the proximity to the Belmont Park Racecourse.
Belmont is only 7km from the Perth CBD and is close to major arteries like Great Eastern Highway, Graham Farmer Freeway and Tonkin Highway. Its proximity to many amenities such as the International & Domestic Airports, Belmont Forum Shopping Centre, Crown Casino, Ascot and Belmont Park racecourse, and local primary and high schools.
Schools located in the area are Belmont Primary School, Belmont City College, Notre Dame and Belmont SHS.
There are some great bus routes that service the area many of which pass through Belmont Forum and the suburb which makes it easy for commuters.
